Starbucks Unveils Strato Frappuccino Line to Celebrate 30 Years of the Iconic Beverage

In celebration of the Frappuccino's 30th anniversary, Starbucks is unveiling a vibrant new selection of drinks—the Strato Frappuccino Blended Beverages. These offerings bring a modern flair to the iconic beverage with bold flavors and striking visual layers.

The name "Strato," inspired by the Italian word for "layer," perfectly captures the essence of these drinks. They are distinct from the classic Frappuccino in both form and flavor, featuring flavored cold foam instead of traditional whipped cream, creating a unique texture and aesthetic.

A New Trio of Flavors

The Strato line introduces three flavor profiles: the Brown Sugar Strato Frappuccino, featuring Frappuccino roast coffee with a brown sugar cold foam and a hint of cinnamon; the Strawberry Matcha Strato Frappuccino, combining unsweetened matcha with strawberry-flavored cream cold foam; and the Salted Caramel Mocha Strato Frappuccino, a blend of mocha sauce with salted caramel cold foam and caramel drizzle.

These innovative drinks are designed to satisfy contemporary tastes by layering bold flavors and textures. Susan Engdahl, a member of the development team, emphasized that the new Strato options highlight Starbucks’ dedication to evolving a classic into something that resonates with today’s consumers.

Testing and Refinement

Before launching nationwide, Starbucks trialed the Strato Frappuccinos in select stores through their "Starting Five" program. This initiative allows for real-time feedback from both customers and baristas, ensuring each product meets high standards of taste and quality. The positive response from these initial tests played a crucial role in the final rollout.

The "Starting Five" program underscores Starbucks’ commitment to refining its menu based on customer input, ensuring new products align with consumer preferences and expectations.

Innovations in Health-Conscious Options

Starbucks is not only focusing on new flavor experiences but also exploring health-forward options. In select locations, the company is testing a protein-infused cold foam. This new development provides between 15 and 18 grams of protein, appealing to those seeking nutritious additions without compromising taste or texture.

The protein cold foam is initially paired with a sugar-free vanilla latte, representing Starbucks’ broader effort to modernize their offerings and appeal to a health-conscious clientele.

Artistic Collaborations Enhance the Experience

Marking the launch, Starbucks is also reintroducing its Artist Collaboration Series. The latest installment includes merchandise inspired by Nigerian-American artist Shadé Akanbi. Her designs, available in select stores, enrich the customer experience with unique artistic expressions.

These products, like the new Frappuccino flavors, are part of Starbucks’ strategy to offer more than just beverages, creating a cultural and aesthetic connection with its audience.

As the Frappuccino celebrates its thirtieth year, Starbucks looks forward with the Strato line, merging innovation with tradition. By integrating layered flavors, health-conscious options, and artistic collaborations, Starbucks continues to adapt and grow, remaining a staple in the global coffee culture while honoring its storied past.
